About Me

I am a physicist, scientific consultant & writer, and the founder of HeronSpecs (est. Oct 2025), where I help scientists and technology professionals bring structure, clarity, and efficiency to their research and engineering workflows through practical lab and project management tools.
With a doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, I built a strong foundation in experimental physics, molecular spectroscopy, and radio astronomy, publishing in leading astrophysics journals and collaborating internationally with renowned research teams. Working in experimental labs sparked my interest not only in science itself, but in how research is organized, documented, and coordinated.
Before founding HeronSpecs, I moved into industry as a technical project manager and product owner for cryogenic and optical microscopy systems, leading complex customer projects and supporting the development of high-tech components such as vacuum shrouds and cryogenic assemblies. This role required a unique combination of technical and managerial skills – constantly balancing between engineering, R&D, and administration tasks. As a technical project manager I was, in many ways, a systems engineer in disguise.
Earlier in my career, I also worked as a patent engineer, drafting patent applications in electron microscopy and other advanced technology fields. This experience deepened my understanding of technical documentation, intellectual property, and the importance of communicating complex concepts clearly and precisely.
Across these roles, I repeatedly observed the same challenge: highly capable teams working in demanding technical environments often struggled with messy workflows, scattered knowledge, and increasing project complexity. This realization ultimately led me to focus on structured research workflows and to establish HeronSpecs as a way to support labs and technical teams more directly.
Beyond technical expertise, I bring strong skills in scientific, technical, and career-focused writing. I regularly contribute to multiple publications on Medium, where I share insights on lab operations, technical project management, and practical strategies for improving research workflows.
Today, I combine my scientific background, hands-on project management experience, and structured way of thinking to support research organizations, tech companies, and European consortia in achieving their goals.

Johanna was a pleasure to work with. She laid out a reasonable timeline and while working on the patent application she actively setup multiple review milestones so the all misunderstandings were quickly caught and addressed. She has advanced knowledge in Electron microscopy and EDS analysis.
